    Amid the wreckage of the American B-52 bomber and the Strato Tanker which collided while refuelling in mid-air over Kentucky were found intact and unexploded the two nuclear weapons which were in the bomber. Aircraft wreckage was strewn over a wide area.

    As the two 'planes collided, there was an explosion which was seen from over 1200 miles away. Four men parachuted to safety; four were killed and four were still missing after the crash.

    Experts carried geiger counters ass they searched among the wreckage on the ground, but it was announced that there was no danger of an explosion.

    The accident - the U.S. Air Force states - is the first of its kind since the Strategic Air Command began its mid-air refuelling programme nine years ago.

    Last night, an Air Force jet tanker attempted to refuel a state fortress over North Central Kentucky. The two planes -- one of them carrying a top-secret nuclear bomb -- collided.
