Background: It was the turn of Thai film stars and cinema employees to join the wave of demonstrations in Bangkok. They gathered yesterday (Friday) outside a suburban temple to protest against a government order closing cinemas in the early evenings to save power.
Some of Thailands beck known film stars were among the demonstrators. The organisers handed out flowers before offering prayers in the courtyard of the temple. speakers condemned the government's action as discrimination against the entertainment industry which is feeling the effect of recent power cuts.
Nightclubs as well as cinemas have been forced to close early, in a city once noted for its night life.
After the protest rally a delegation form the movie industry delivered a petition to the Thai Prime Minister. The closure order was introduced earlier this week as fuel shortages began to hit Thailand's economy.
