Background: In South Africa, terrorists bombed three targets within as many days. A white engineering student died in an explosion at Cape Town on June 5. Two other targets were hit on June 3 and June 4. The bombing on June 3 was aimed at the commuter railway line between Johannesburg and its black satellite city of Soweto. Although there were no casualties -- railway pylons, signalling equipment and tracking were damaged, bringing trains to a temporary halt. Emergency equipment was installed, restoring services the next day. In the northern Natal town of Paulpietersburg on June 2 , six separate blasts rocked fuel tanks, storage depots, railway lines and an electricity supply transformer. There were no injuries, but serious damage was caused. some of the fuel tanks were still burning one day later. A few hours before the attack, two white businessmen were allegedly tied up a robbed by men in army jackets carrying automatic weapons. The incidents are the latest in a series blamed on the banned African National Congress.
