Wearing form fitting swimsuits, the 66 beauties who'll contest the Miss World contest in London next Thursday (18 November) gave a more than a glimpse of their obvious talents at the Mecca Ballroom in Leicester Square on Sunday (14 November).

SYNOPSIS: Originally there'd been 69 girls in the contest. But so far Miss. Venezuela, 19 year old Maria Rivero, has failed to turn up. She left home earlier in the week and was reported to have finally arrived in London on Saturday (13 November). But so far her sponsors have been unable to trace her. Then, just before Sunday's parade, it was announced that Miss. Swaziland, 19 year old Zanele Tshabalala, and Miss. Mauritius, 19 year old Anne-Lise Lesur, had been withdrawn from the quest. Both had been withdrawn on instructions from their home governments who disagree with there being two South African entrants. One black and one white. They claim the girls represent racial groups and not the country itself. But despite the disruptions and intrigues the rest of the girls didn't appear worried as they paraded for the cameramen who were out in force.

Representing Germany in Monika Schneeweise who's a 21 year old student from Frankfurt. She's a 5 foot 8" (1.73 metres) brunette who's main ambition is to become a lawyer. And from Japan - lovely Noriko Asakuno who's 19 and comes from Tokyo.

From Africa comes, Miss Liberia. She's 19 years old and when she's not competing in beauty contest she works in a bank.

New Zealand's 22 year old Anne Clifford of Christchurch is the daughter of a lawyer and herself a law student. When she graduated wants to join her father's law firm.

Strongly favoured to take out the title is Miss Australia Karen Jo Pini. Karen's a 19 year old dressmaker from Perth in Western Australia.
