Sweden, land of prolonged winter, has devised a method of keeping car engines warm while parked in snow covered streets. The government has erected power points in parking areas of the larger and modern blocks of flats in Stockholm suburbs. A heater unit is built into the car engine (cost about GBP15-0-0) and a lead runs from the unit to the point. Left connected through the cold nights the engine is kept warm and starts easily - without the need to pour warm water into the engine - the following morning.
Charge for the unit is included in the apartment rent of the person using it. When units are erected in all Stockholm parking areas a coin slot meter, something like a parking meter, will be incorporated in the design.
