Background: World Sidecar Champion Klaus Enders of West Germany, riding a BMW, had a runaway victory in Saturday's (2 June) Isle of Man TT 750 cc sidecar race. Enders led the race from the start, finishing the 113 mile (200 km) event in the record time of I hour 13.1 seconds -- an average speed of 93 mph (146 km).

Second was another West German, Siegfried Schauzu, also on a BMW, and third was Britain's John Denton, on a Honda. It was the first time Enders had won the race. His passenger was Ralf Englehardt.

Tragedy struck another TT race on Saturday -- the 250 cc solo event -- in which 25-year-old John Clarke, of Britain, was killed.

SYNOPSIS: The World Sidecar racing champion, Klaus Enders of West Germany, and fellow countrymen Siegfried Schauzu and Wolfgang Kalauch. They were among competitors in Saturday's Isle of Man TT seven-hundred and-fifty cc sidecar race. Two British teams were the first to start.

Enders and team-mate Ralf Englehardt were leading when they crossed the Braddan Bridge, followed by Schauzu and Wolfgang Kalauch of West Germany. They were followed by Jeff Gawley and Peter Sales, of Great Britain. Another West German combination driven by Richard Wagoner, with Rolf Kabbe as passenger, was close behind them.

Over ninety combinations from six countries took part in the one-hundred-and-thirteen mile race. British rider John Clarke was killed in another race on the same day. Enders won the race for West Germany in record time.

Enders finished in one hour thirteen-point-one seconds, at an average speed of ninety-three miles an hour. Schauzu of West Germany came second. It was the first time Enders had won the seven-hundred-and-fifty cc race, although he has won the Isle of Man TT's five hundred cc event twice. On the last of the race's three laps, Enders set a new lap speed record of ninety six-point-eight-six miles per hour.
