At the executive mansion near Monrovia on Wednesday (29 September), President William Tolbert received the new ambassador from Spain, Juan Jose Cano Abascal. The new ambassador received appropriate military honours upon his arrival.

In presenting his credentials, Mr Abascal told President Tolbert that the people of Spain are well aware of and admire the stability of the Liberian political institution, the maturity of the people and President Tolbert's fruitful and progressive policies.

In reply, President Tolbert told the new Spanish ambassador that the Liberian government intends to explore new avenues and higher dimensions within its existing policies, by which it can increase the friendly relations with Spain.
