  • Description

A Dutch-made Fokker Friendship airliner was made ready at Ypenburg Air Base near The Hague today (Sunday) to fly to the Middle East for the use of Lieutenant-General Odd Bull, the United Nations military commander in Jerusalem. The twin-turboprop Fokker will replace a U.N. Dakota which was damaged by bombing last week.

U Thant, the United Nations Secretary General, asked Holland to make an aircraft and crew available as soon as possible -- and the Dutch Government immediately. The plane has been painted white and inscribed for the United Nations. It will be flown in the Middle East by members of the Royal Dutch Air Force.

Following the United Nations truce agreed to by Israel and its main Arab opponents -- Egypt, Syria and Jordan -- General Odd Bull will be using the plane in his task of watching over the correct observance of the truce by both sides. It was due to leave for the Middle East tonight.
