  • Description

AN OBSOLETE FOUR-ENGINED AIRCRAFT WAS SET ALIGHT AT STANSTED AIRPORT, ENGLAND TO PROVE THE EFFICIENCY OF A FIRE-FIGHTING FORCE TO DEAL WITH JUMBO-JET BLAZES. LIGHT WATER FOAM WAS USED TO BRING THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL.

THE DEMONSTRATORS, THE 3M COMPANY AND THE PYRENE COMPANY LTD., STAGED WHAT IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN THE LARGEST BLAZE EVER TO BE DELIBERATELY LIT FOR DEMONSTRATION PURPOSES. A MATCH WAS PUT TO THE AIRCRAFT SITTING IN A 10,000 SQ. FT. POOL OF 4,000 GALLOONS OF JET AIRCRAFT FUEL.

LIGHT WATER FOAM, PRODUCED AFTER A FOUR YEAR RESEARCH PROGRAMME, WAS SPRAYED OVER THE BLAZING AIRCRAFT BRINGING IT UNDER CONTROL IN A MATTER OF MINUTES.

THE ADVANTAGE OF THIS PRODUCT IS THAT IT CAUSES THE WATER TO FLOAT ON INFLAMMABLE FUELS - SEALING OFF THE VAPOUR AND PREVENTING RE-FLASH OF THE EXTINGUISHED AREA.

THIS SAVES VALUABLE TIME IN GETTING PASSENGERS OR CARGO OFF THE AIRCRAFT SO THAT THE FIRE CAN BE PERMANENTLY EXTINGUISHED.

LIGHT WATER IS APPROVED FOR USE ON ALL U.S. NAVAL BASES AND ON THE WORLD'S LARGEST AIRCRAFT CARRIER, THE U.S.S. FORRESTAL.

NOW WITH THE ADVENT OF JUMBO-JETS THE NEED FOR SUCH A FIRE FIGHTING PRODUCT IS NECESSARY.
