    GREEK AND OVERSEAS REPORTERS WERE YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) ALLOWED TO VISIT THE SCENE OF THE ALLEGED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT AGAINST THE GREEK PRIME MINISTER, COLONEL GEORGE PAPADOPOULOS.

    A MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTING TO MURDER THE PRIME MINISTER WITH A BOMB. THE BOMB EXPLODED ON TUESDAY ON THE NATIONAL ROAD TO CAPE SOUNION, BUT COLONEL PAPADOPOULOS ESCAPED UNHURT.

    THE REPORTERS WERE ACCOMPANIED TO THE SCENE BY THE GENERAL DIRECTOR AND PRESS AND INFORMATION AND ARMY AND NAVY OFFICERS. THE EXPLOSION CAUSED A LARGE HOLE IN THE ROAD SURFACE. THE ALLEGED ATTEMPTED ASSASSIN, ALEXANDROS PANAGOULIS, WAS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN CAPTURED BY POLICE WHILE HE WAS SEEKING AN ESCAPE OVER ROCKS BESIDE THE ROAD.
