Addressing the National Assembly in Paris today, Mr. Pflimlin, the French Prime Minister, asked for and was voted a removal of special powers to deal with the Moslem terrorrists in Algeria. The voting was 475 - 100, the Communists voting with the government; and this is an increase of 14 voters in support of H. Pflimlin.
Today, with an indirect acknowledgement to General de Gaulle's criticism, he also told the Assembly he would bring forward proposals for urgent constitutional reforms to strengthen the Government. "Only fundamental changes can save the Republican regime" he said, "but this must be achieved in strict legality".
Some of the special powers granted to H. Pflimlin will enable him to restrict the movement of currency and capital out of France - to this end he has already banned French Tourists taking more than 16,000 francs out of the country with them, and has insisted on vices for all French people travelling abroad.
