    BELGIUM TODAY (SUNDAY) CELEBRATED IT'S NATIONAL DAY WITH THE TRADITIONAL MILITARY PARADE THROUGH THE STREETS OF BRUSSELS, THE NATION'S CAPITAL. KING BAUDOUIN AND QUEEN FABIOLA ATTENDED THE PARADE AND THE KING REVIEWED THE MARCH PAST OF TROOPS AND ARMOURED VEHICLES.

    AS IN PREVIOUS NATIONAL DAY PARADES, THE BELGIAN ARMY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE OCCASION TO INTRODUCE A NEW VEHICLE. THIS YEAR'S PARADE FEATURED, FOR THE FIRST TIME, THE AMERICAN MANUFACTURED "MOFAB" AMPHIBIOUS VEHICLE. EIGHT OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO THE ENGINEERS GROUP.

    THE PARADE INCLUDED 4,000 TROOPS, 400 ARMOURED VEHICLES AND 150 AIRCRAFT.

    AMONG THE OFFICIAL GUESTS WERE M. MANLIO BROSIO, OF NATO, AND M. JEAN REY, THE PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET.

    THE BELGIAN NATIONAL DAY IS HELD TO CELEBRATE THE SEPARATION OF BELGIUM OF FROM THE KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS, IN 1831. IT WAS ON 21 JULY, IN THAT YEAR, THAT KING LEOPOLD I TOOK THE OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE NEW BELGIAN CONSTITUTION.
