Speaking at Buenos Aires' Boca Juniors football stadium, Sra. Isabel Martinez de Person, addressed huge crowd of women members of the Justicialista Party (the official name of the Peronistas as a political party). The 40-year-old former cancer is the third wife of Juan Person, the 76-year-old ex-dictator of Argentina now living in exile in Madrid.
Sra. de Person arrived in Buenos Aires on December 7th, and is said to be paving the way for Peron's return to Argentina in 1972 or 1973. Although President Lanusse is reported to have had indirect negotiations with Peron with the aim of winning his cooperation in the military government's plan to return the country to constitutional rule with general elections in 1973, the former President's return is strongly opposed by powerful sections within the armed forces--with certain of the younger elements said to be ready to take extreme action in the event of Peron's attempting a return.
Sra. de Peron's enthusiastic welcome and the massive turnout of women supporters, is strongly reminiscent of the huge popular backing aroused by Eva Duarte de Peron--the "Lider's second wife who died in 1952.
Accompanying Isabel Peron at the rally was Juana Larrauri--head of the newly-formed First Peronist Women's Congress and a one-time Member Parliament during the Peron regime.
