THE RACE BEGAN AT 9 AM IN SLIGHT FOG WHICH CLEARED DURING THE MORNING. THE RIVER SEEMED TO BOIL AS THE SWIFT BOATS SHOT DOWN THE STRAIGHT AND ROUNDED THE MARKER BUOYS IN SHARP HEEL-ABOUT TURNS. WITH DARING AND SKILL COMPETITORS PUSHED TOP SPEEDS UP TO 75MPH.

AT 3 PM THE SIX HOURS WERE OVER AND THE WINNERS OF THE 1,000-1,500cc CATEGORY FLAGGED IN. THEY WERE NO 440, THE ALGERIAN TEAM COLOMBE-FAURE, WHO COMPLETED THE CIRCUIT 86 TIMES, AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 40MPH.
