    During his two-week state visit to the Soviet Union, Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia toured industrial centres in the Ural Mountains.

    Accompanied by Princess Aida Desta and members of his suite the Ethiopian ruler met workers at a plant in Sverdlovsk where he showed great interest in heavy machinery.

    At Beryozovsk the Emperor went down a gold mine and walked to the face to see the precious ores being worked.

    It was announced in Moscow July 12 that Ethiopia and the Soviet Union have signed a trade pact under which Russia is to export machinery, ferrous products and other goods in exchange for hides, groundnuts and oilseeds. Russia will further build a big secondary school and equip a hospital in Addis Ababa.

    Soviet Premier Khrushchev, whose Government has made the Emperor the personal gift of an Ilyushin 14 aircraft, has accepted an invitation by his guest to pay an official visit to Ethiopia.

    Emperor Haile Selassie left Moscow for Prague July 13 and will visit Belgium July 17-20.
