  • Description

South Vietnamese Vice-President Nguyen Cao Ky, currently making a bid for the Presidency, on sunday carried his campaign to the town of Gia Kiem, 50 miles (80 kms) north-west of Saigon. He was here to declare a new school open, but at the same time he made a brief speech declaring that the Vietnamese war had reached stalemate and that any government should seek a solution to the conflict as its first priority.

In the meantime, Mr. Ky's presidential bid was running into trouble. Reports from Saigon say he was having difficulty getting the necessary sponsors to back his candidacy. With the nomination deadline less than a week away, and with the air full of accusations of election rigging, Mr. Ky discovered that less than a third of his expected sponsors had given him their backing.
