    PRIME MINISTER HAYATO IKEDA WATCHED FROM A DAIS THE LONG LINE OF TROOPS MARCHED SMARTLY BY. MOST OF THE TANKS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENT ON DISPLAY WERE MANUFACTURED IN JAPAN.

    IN A SPEECH THE JAPANESE PREMIER REFERRED TO THE 'SERIOUS' CUBAN SITUATION AND URGED HIS LISTENERS 'TO BE PREPARED'.

    THE PARADE TOOK PLACE NEAR THE MEIJI SHRINE, THE SHINTO MAUSOLEUM DEDICATED TO THE LATE EMPEROR MEIJI, REGARDED AS THE FOUNDER OF MODERN JAPAN AS A MILITARY POWER.
