Background: Paul Getty III, grandson of the American oil millionaire, arrived in Rome on Friday (25 January) form Austria to help police with their investigations into his five-month kidnapping last year.
The 17-year-old, who had bene on a skiing holiday since before Christmas, went straight from the airport to Rome's 'Ponte Milvio' police headquarters.
Four men have, so far, been arrested and charged with kidnapping him and causing him serious bodily injuries -- his right ear was cut off during his captivity. All the arrested men are form the Calabria region of southern Italy. Police are searching for a fifth suspect.
???l's kidnap ended with payment of a ransom reported to exceed one million pounds sterling (about 2.2 million U.S. dollars).
Fears have been expressed for the boy's safety since reports that the gang responsible for his abduction has Mafia connections. But Dr. Carlo Jovinella, head of Rome's homicide squad, has pledged that Paul will be protected in such a way that "he will not run the slightest risk". Earlier this week Paul's mother, Mrs. Gail Harris, said that she would not allow her son to return to Rome if she believed there was the slightest danger involved.
