    AGOSTINI HAD A COMMANDING LEAD WHEN THE RACE WAS BROUGHT TO AN END. HE HAD PUSHED THE LAP RECORD AT THE WINDING NUERBURGRING CIRCUIT TO THREE MINUTES EIGHT POINT SIX SECONDS. THE RACE WAS TO HAVE BEEN OVER 201.4 KILOMETRES.
