    UNITED STATES AND CHINESE ENVOYS MET FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A MONTH IN WARSAW TODAY (FRIDAY) FOR WHAT WERE LATER DESCRIBED AS BUSINESS-LIKE AND USEFUL TALKS. REPRESENTING THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA WAS THE CHARGE D'AFFAIRES IN WARSAW, MR LEI YANG WHILE THE AMERICAN AMBASSADOR TO POLAND, MR WALTER STOESSEL SPOKE ON BEHALF OF HIS COUNTRY.

    IT WAS THE 136TH SESSION OF SINO-AMERICAN DIPLOMATIC TALKS WHICH BEGAN IN GENEVA IN 1955 AND MOVED TO WARSAW THREE YEARS LATER.

    AS USUAL NO DETAILS WERE DISCLOSED AFTER THE CLOSED DOOR DISCUSSIONS. THE DELEGATES PARTED WITHOUT FIXING A SPECIFIC DATE FOR THEIR NEXT MEETING. BUT MR STOESSEL TOLD NEWSMEN THEY AGREED TO GET IN TOUCH AGAIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO DECIDE ON A DAY. THE VENUE WILL BE THE CHINESE EMBASSY...IN KEEPING WITH THE POLICY OF ALTERNATING THE MEETINGS BETWEEN THE COUNTRIES WARSAW EMBASSIES.

    THE UNITED STATES AND CHINA HAVE NO DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS AND THE CONVERSATIONS ARE THE ONLY OFFICIAL FORUM FOR EXCHANGING AND CHALLENGING POLICIES AND EXCHANGING SIGNALS ON MAJOR INTERNATIONAL ISSUES.

    LAST MONTH'S MEETING WAS THE FIRST BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES IN TWO YEARS.
