  • Description

AIR AFRIQUE, WHICH IS OWNED BY 12 WEST AFRICAN FRENCH SPEAKING STATES AND A FRENCH COMPANY, HELD A BOARD MEETING IN LOME, CAPITAL OF TOGO, YESTERDAY(SATURDAY). THE MEETING DISCUSSED THE QUESTION OF INCREASING THE AIRLINE'S FLEET.

AIR AFRIQUE, WHICH RUNS A BIG NETWORK IN AFRICA AND TO EUROPE, OPERATES CARAVELLES, DC-8s AND DC-3s. IT IS THOUGHT THAT THE AIRLINE WILL SHORTLY PURCHASE AN AIRCRAFT CAPABLE OF SEATING 250 PEOPLE.

THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF AIR AFRIQUE, CHEIK FAL, DISCLOSED THIS AT A NEWS CONFERENCE BEFORE THE START OF THE BOARD MEETING. MEMBERS OF THE BOARD HAD TRAVELLED TO LOME BY A SPECIAL AIR AFRIQUE AIRCRAFT.

THE BOARD ALSO REVIEWED THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS OF 1968's OPERATIONS. CHEIK FAL SAID THAT ALTHOUGH AIR AFRIQUE WAS AN INTERNATIONAL AIRLINE IT TOOK SPECIAL INTEREST IN THE INTERNAL SERVICES OF ITS OWNER STATES. TOGO, HE SAID, WAS ONE OF THE HARE COUNTRIES THAT DID NOT INTERNAL AIR SERVICE. THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL SAID AIR AFRIQUE WAS AT THE DISPOSAL OF TOGO FOR THE CREATION OF AN INTERNAL TRANSPORT SYSTEM.
