Background: Holland's Jan Janssen won the nine stage Paris to Nice cycle race over 960 miles (1525 kilometres) which ended in Nice today (Tuesday). Janssen's time was 41 hrs: 56 mins: 28 secs. When all the riders had passed under the finishing banner the winner was given the familiar bouquet of flowers and congratulated on all sides.
The French rider J.C. Annaert was second, totalling only one minute longer over the entire course. Third was another Frenchman, J. Forestier.
The last stage of the race was run through the mountains of Nice; 150 kilometres of difficult, exhausting riding. The winner of the stage was the Belgian, Edouard Sels. Also given the same time over the course were the Briton, Barry Hoban, and Peter Post of Holland.
