  • Description

At a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday (3 October) the Nigerian Foreign Minister, Dr. Okoi Arikpo, condemned the continuing South African occupation of Namibia (South West Africa).

He spoke about this after congratulating the new Portuguese Government for decolonising its African territories. He said; "The well-organised brutalities practised on the indigenous population of Namibia in the hope of destroying their fight for freedom can only be matched by the Nazi horrors of the first half of this century."
Time was also running out for the "minority white oligarchies" in Zimbabwe, he added, referring to the breakaway British colony of Rhodesia by its African name.
