Background: The deposed ruler of Cambodia, Prince Norodom Sihanouk received a warm welcome when he arrived in the North Vietnamese capital recently from Peking. During talks with North Vietnam's leaders, the need for "military solidarity" between the peoples of both countries was stressed.

The first talks were held shortly after the Prince had arrived in Hanoi by air from Peking. The result of those discussions was not revealed, but the North Vietnamese News Agency (VNA) reported that the two leaders had a "cordial conversation".

Also present at that meeting were North Vietnamese Party Secretary, Le Duan, National Assembly Chairman, Truong Chin, Premier Van Dong, Defence Minister Vo Nguyen Giap and other leading officials.

Radio Hanoi, while hailing the deposed leader's visit, stressed in a broadcast that each county was responsible for its own liberation.

Later, however, after another round of talks, Radio Hanoi declared that the need for "militant solidarity" between both countries was a prime point.

On his arrival, and at consequent public appearances, Prince Sihanouk who heads his Cambodian "Government" in exile, was cheered and feted by large crowds both in the streets of the city and at functions. Both the North Vietnamese flags and the Cambodian standard were waved in his presence by enthusiastic onlookers.
