    DEMONSTRATORS OUTSIDE THE AMERICAN EMBASSY IN MANILA ON FRIDAY PROTESTED AGAINST U.S. - PHILIPPINE RELATIONS. THEY CLAIMED THAT THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES HAD LEAD TO ABUSE.

    ABOUT 300 STUDENTS, MANY OF THEM CARRYING PLACARDS TRIED TO STORM THE EMBASSY. THE STUDENTS THREW LIGHTED TORCHES AT THE LINE OF POLICE GUARDING THE EMBASSY, AND THE PEOPLE RETALIATED WITH WARNING SHOTS IN THE AIR.

    THE POLICE FINALLY BROKE UP THE DEMONSTRATION AND ARRESTED SEVERAL STUDENTS.

    LABOUR UNIONS ALSO GAVE THE SUPPORT TO THE DEMONSTRATION DEAD OF A FILIPINO WHO STRAYED INTO A U.S. MILITARY CAMP. UNION MEMBERS AND STUDENTS HAVE ARGUED THAT THE AMERICAN SERVICEMAN INVOLVED SHOULD BE TRIED BY A FILIPINO COURT.
