    On Thursday, Lebanon's new Premier designate, Dr. Amin Al-Hafez, held consultations with parliamentary leaders on the formation of a new Lebanese Government. Dr. Al-Hafez told reporters on Thursday that he did not think decrees forming a new Government would be issued immediately. Reports from the Lebanon say that formal consultations were completed on Friday (20 April) night but that Dr. Al-Hafez was still trying to reconcile differences between the Parliamentary blocs.

    Among the politicians who attended the consultations at the Lebanese Parliament were former Prime Minister Mr. Rashid Karami, former Defence Minister Emir Majid Arslan, and former Minister for Oil Mr. Pierre Helou.

    Mr. Tony Franjieh, son of Lebanese President Suleiman Franjieh, sat with Dr. Al-Hafez and his bloc. ???r Pierre Gemayel, head of the Phalangist bloc, also attended.

    Dr. Al-Hafez, who has never before held a Cabinet post, was named as Premier-Designate by President Franjieh on Wednesday (18 April). He replaces Mr. Saeb Salam, who resigned following the recent Israeli raids on Lebanon.

    Mr. Rashid Karami told newsmen he was happy all the parties and blocs would support the new Prime Minister.

    SYNOPSIS: Consultations were held at the Lebanese Parliament building in Beirut on Thursday on the formation of a new government. Former Prime Minister Rashid Karami was among the leading politicians who attended. Mr. karami told newsmen he was sure all parliamentary parties and blocs would support the new Premier-Designate, Dr. Amin Al-Hafez.

    Dr. Al-Hafez was named Premier-Designate last Wednesday, following the resignation of Mr. Saeb Salam.

    The former Minister for Defence, Emir Majid Arslan, and former Oil Minister Pierre Helou were involved in the consultations.

    Tony Franjieh, the son of Lebanese President Suleiman Franjieh, joined Dr. Al-Hafez and his bloc at the meeting. The Premier-Designate said the decrees for the new Government would not be issued immediately. But reports said that, by Friday, the formal consultations were complete, although there were still differences to be reconciled between the parliamentary blocs.

    Pierre Gemayel, head of the Phalangist party, paid his respects to the premier-Designate. Dr. Al-Hafez is a middle aged professor of economics who has never held a Cabinet post. The previous government resigned after the recent Israeli raids in the Lebanon.

    The Premier-Designate also called on former Prime Ministers.
