  • Description

King Baudouin of Belgium, accompanied by Belgian Foreign Minister Wigny, was filmed during an official visit to Luxembourg June 16.

Film shows the King arriving at the station, greeting the crowds from a balcony of the Grand Ducal Palace, placing a wreath at a monument for Luxembourg's war dead, and attending a reception at the Town Hall.

Received at the city's main railway station by Grand Duchess Charlotte, her husband Prince Felix, and heir to the throne, Prince Jean, the Royal visitor was cheered all along the route to the palace where he appeared on the balcony in the company of the Grand Ducal family including his sister, Princess Josephine Charlotte, wife of Prince Jean.

After laying a wreath at the Unknown Warrior's tomb, King Baudouin was presented at the Town Hall with a casket containing drawings of the different stages in the city's historical development. The present was handed to the Royal visitor by Burgomaster of Luxembourg.

King Baudouin's visit to Luxembourg is the first paid by a Belgian Sovereign since 1930 when King Albert and Queen Elizabeth of Belgium came to the Grand Duchy. It is also his first official visit to a foreign country on the European continent.
