THE AIR STRIKES WERE CARRIED OUT AFTER AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF TOP SOUTH VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT AND UNITED STATES MISSION OFFICIALS IN SAIGON.

    ALL BUT ONE OF THE 24 PILOTS WHO TOOK PART IN THE RAID TAXIED THEIR PROPELLER-DRIVEN SKYRAIDER FIGHTER BOMBERS TO THE PARKING APRON AT THE AIRPORT TO CHEERS FROM A HUGE CROWD. ONE OF THE 24 PILOTS PARACHUTED FROM HIS PLANE AND LANDED IN DANANG - A KEY AMERICAN BASE - WHEN HIS PLANE DEVELOPED MECHANICAL AFTER BEING HIT BY GROUND FIRE.

    LED BY BRIGADIER-GENERAL NGUYEN CAO KY, THE YOUNG AIRFORCE CHIEF, THEY MARCHED BEFORE THE REVIEWING STAND IN THEIR OLIVE GREEN AND BLACK FLYING SUITS.

    LIEUTENANT GENERAL NGUYEN KHANH, THE ARMED FORCES CHIEF, PINNED THE CROSS OF GALLANTRY ON EACH ONE OF THEM AND YOUNG PRETTY GIRLS GARLANDED THEM WITH FLOWERS.
