    IN A TELEVISION PRESS CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON TODAY (THURSDAY), PRESIDENT JOHNSON SAID THE MANILA SUMMIT CONFERENCE WOULD REVIEW MILITARY PROGRESS IN THE VIETNAM WAR AND EXPLORE WAYS OF BRINGING ABOUT AN END TO THE CONFLICT. THE PRESIDENT SAID HE WOULD LEAVE WASHINGTON ON OCTOBER 17TH AND FLY TO WELLINGTON, THE NEW ZEALAND CAPITAL, BY WAY OF HONOLULU. HE WOULD THEN VISIT AUSTRALIA, THE PHILIPPINES, THAILAND, MALAYSIA, AND SOUTH KOREA.

    MR. JOHNSON SAID IS WAS THE ADMINISTRATION'S POLICY TO PROVIDE MAXIMUM DETERRENCE WITH THE MINIMUM INVOLVEMENT. HE WAS ANSWERING THIS QUESTION.....
