  • Description

In mid-October, elements of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and units of the 30th ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam) Rangers, conducted a MEDCAP (Medical Civic Action Program) and complete cordon search of a village less than three miles south of the three miles south of the Republic of Vietnam capital of Saigon.

After the village was completely sealed, the villagers were gathered at a central building in the village and a sick call was begun. A meal of rice and chicken was prepared by the American soldiers for the Vietnamese civilians.

Later, the American and Vietnamese soldiers searched the area for possible caches or signs of enemy activities.

All traffic on the road entering the village was stopped, checked, and then escorted through the village, allowing no one to stop.

This type of action attempts to deny the enemy soldiers a place of refuge or a supply point near the nation's capital.
