AFTER THE QUEEN AND THE DUKE - BOTH WEARING CASUAL CLOTHES - HAD COME ASHORE FROM A ROWING BOAT, THE PAGEANT WAS PERFORMED FOR THE SECOND TIME THIS YEAR. (THE FIRST HAD BEEN ON JANUARY 15, THE ACTUAL ANNIVERSARY OF COOK'S LANDING IN 1770). MAROI WARRIORS SRANDISHING SPARES LEAPT FROM THE BUSHES AS THEY CAUGHT THEIR FIRST GLIMPSE OF WHITE MEN. THE BRITISH PARTY CAME ASHORE, AND AFTER AN EXCHANGE OF GIFTS, THE QUEEN'S FLAG WAS HOISTED.

THE ROYAL PARTY WILL GO ON TO AUSTRALIA LATER THIS MONTH WHERE THEY WILL SEE THE RE-ENACTMENT OF CAPTAIN COOK'S OTHER MAJOR LANDING NEAR SYDNEY.
