Background: Luis Corvalan, in Italy for a ten day visit, which will end March 4th, will meet with leaders of all of Italy's political parties. Last night he met with reporters at the Communist school "togliatti" outside Rome. Corvalan said that the Pinochet regime will not be able to remain for much long in power because it lacks "popular support" and does not have the backing of any of the democratic parties.
This morning Corvaln met with Christian democrat leader Benigno Zaccagnini for talks at C. D. party headquarters.
Corvalan arrived from Moscow yesterday and was met by Italin Communist party number two man, Giancarlo Pajetta. It should be remembered that Luis Corvalan was released by the Pinochet government last month after being kept prisoner since 1973 (the overthrow of the Allende regime) in exchange with the Russian dissent Bukovski.
