  • Description

AN APPEAL HAS GONE OUT TO THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY IN LONDON IN A FINAL BID TO SAVE FROM DESTRUCTION A HOUSE ONCE OCCUPIED BY LENIN.

THE HOUSE IS IN PERCY CIRCUS, ISLINGTON, AND ALREADY THE DEMOLITION GANG HAS REMOVED THE ROOF.

THREE YEARS AGO THE ISLINGTON COUNCIL GAVE APPROVAL FOR A COMPANY TO PULL DOWN THE BUILDING, BUT SINCE THEN A NEW COUNCIL HAS BEEN ELECTED AND VOICES HAVE BEEN RAISED IN PROTEST.

IN RESPONSE TO AN APPEAL BY A MEMBER OF THE NEW COUNCIL, OFFICIALS AT THE SOVIET EMBASSY HAVE ASKED FOR MORE INFORMATION AND HAVE ALSO VISITED THE HOUSE, WHERE LENIN LIVED IN 1905.

IN THE MEANTIME, WHILE THE RUSSIAN EMBASSY CONSIDERS ITS NEXT MOVE, DEMOLITION CONTINUES.
