    The occasion; a 'Peace' rally in honour of General Kassem and the new regime "freeing them from tyranny".

    Iraq's Communist party continues to press for seats on the Cabinet. Premier Kassem has requested 'political parties' not to interfere and has expressed confidence in the Iraqi Army's support should it come to a showdown.

    In Baghdad May 31 General Kassem decreed that political arrests must only be made on orders from the military Governor-General.
