    THE NIGERIAN HEAD OF STATE, GENERAL YAKUBU GOWON YESTERDAY (THURSDAY) PLEDGED HIS COUNTRY'S FULLEST SUPPORT TO THE AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK TO HELP FULFIL ITS OBLIGATIONS. HE TOLD THE HEAD OF THE BANK'S MISSION ....MR. ABDEL LABIDI.....THAT ALL EFFORTS SHOULD BE MADE TOWARDS THE ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE OF AFRICAN STATES.

    THE AFRICAN BANK MISSION IS CURRENTLY ON A WEEK LONG FACT FINDING TOUR OF NIGERIA. DURING THEIR VISIT THE MEMBERS WILL HAVE TALKS WITH TOP NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT MINISTERS AND ECONOMIC LEADERS.

    AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT WAS MADE AFTER TALKS WITH GENERAL GOWON. IN IT THE NIGERIAN LEADER SAID THAT ECONOMIC INDEPENDENCE WAS AS IMPORTANT AS POLITICAL INDEPENDENCE. THE GENERAL ALSO URGED THE BANK TO FOSTER CLOSER ECONOMIC COOPERATION AMONG AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

    REPLYING TO GENERAL GOWON, MR. LABIDI SAID THAT THE BANK WAS CONFIDENT IN NIGERIA'S FUTURE PROSPERITY AND WAS WILLING TO HELP THAT COUNTRY WITHIN THE LIMITS OF THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES.
