TRANSCRIPT SEQ 4: CAHILL ATTORNEY: "I am disappointed that the Court did not see it my way, the way which I believe is the correct way. It is unfortunate that they have not seen fit to intervene, because that now leaves the matter in the hands of the Attorney General, and things are being run by Mr. Mitchell and Mr. Rogers who obviously are taking their orders from 10 Dawning Street, with respect to Mr. Cahill."

SEQ 2: SHAUN KENNY: "The I.R.A. wish to make it known, wish to make it clear to the American public, that we have been in no way connected with explosions which have seriously injured the civilian population, in some cases resulting in deaths of innocent civilians.

The I.R.A. is not in any way involved in the bombing campaigns which have in the past week resulted in the injury of up to 100 persons, and the killing of two innocent people. We lay the blame for the explosions, on a small group known s the provisionals, which broke away from the I.R.A. in 1969.

We wish also to deal with the gentleman known as Joe Cahill, who arrived in the States a few days ago, and its being detained at the moment. We wish to state quite clearly that the provisionals movement of which he is a leader is in no way connected with the Irish Republican Army, is not a wing of the I.R.A., nor is Joe Cahill the leader of the I.R.A., or any of its sections."

Background: Opposing factions of Irish Republican activists made news in New York on Friday.

Lawyers for Joe Cahill, leader of the Provisionals group, which broke away from the I.R.A. in 1969, failed to free him from detention. He has ben held by the authorities since soon after arriving in the United States a few days ago, seeking aid for the Provisionals in their struggle with Northern Ireland.

This was the reaction of Cahill's lawyer to his continuing detention:
Meanwhile, elsewhere in New York, Shaun Kenny, leader of the official I.R.A. disowned Cahill and denied I.R.A. responsibility for the current violence in Belfast.
