  • Description

United Nations Secretary-General U Thant yesterday (Friday 12th June) met three envoys appointed by the Djakarta Conference on Cambodia to report to the United Nations on military attitudes.

The diplomats.....Mr. Hogen of Japan, Ambassador Sani of Indonesia, and Pan Su Ghazali of Malaysia...... attended the Djakarta Conference a month ago which issued a communique calling for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from Cambodia, after it had been briefed to discuss the escalation of the Indo-China war.

Details of the envoy's report to U Thant are unknown, but Japanese Foreign Minister Kiichi made Japan's position clear in Manila of Friday when he said his country was not prepared to take any military role in Asia if the United States pulled out, but that Japan would struggle for peace through the economic field and cultural co-operation. He also re-affirmed the communique issued by the Djakarta Conference.
