    Five Portuguese soldiers taken prisoner by the Angola Popular Liberation Movement (MPLA) were brought to a news conference organised by the MPLA on Wednesday (24th April) at the movement's headquarters in Brazzaville in the Peoples Republic of Congo.

    Small arms and ammunition also captured by the MPLA, were on show outside the conference room and a large crowd gathered to seed the display. The weapons included some made in West Germany, grenades made in Italy, rockets made in the U.S.A., and weapons from Belgium. The MPLA guerrillas also claim to have shot down two French Alouette helicopters as well as bomber 'planes made in the US.

    At the conference the President of the MPLA, Lucio Lara, introduced each of the prisoners. He accused two of them Manuel de Oliveira and Raul Lopes Rodrigues, of using psychological warfare. The two administrators of the town of Miconje and of Belize. Two others, Manuel Nascimento Barbosa and Luiz Dituala were said to have been captured while they were clearing ground of a heliport.

    The MPLA said fifteen other men were captured during this operation, but they were set free after their weapons had been confiscated. Two landrovers were also seized according to the guerrillas.

    The fifth prisoner, Emanuel de Jesus Pitra Agrela was said to have been taken in another operation, along with his comrade in arms, Antonio Pestana Goncalves. But Goncalves was apparently wounded, and after treatment, was set free.
