  • Description

Hungary has joined the long list of European countries that have imposed agricultural restrictions because of lack of rain and extremely hot temperatures.

SYNOPSIS: In Csongrad County, the lowest part of the country, the earth is thoroughly parched. This is most unusual since the area is, moro often than not, affected by floods. This year, however, farmers have had to lean more heavily on irrigation schemes to help them encourage some kind of produce from the land.

On this farm, there are a thousand head of cattle. They are all in danger of dying of thirst if the hot spell does not gives way soon to some rain. River levels are at an all-time low and irrigation projects are in danger of closing down. Hungry's main water source, the Danube, is at its lowest level for many years. The Government is trying to assist farmers by making available to them portable water pumps to help them get water into their farms. The Government has also appointed special personnel to ensure that all possible means are used to exploit whatever water is available or agricultural purposes.
