    PRESENT AT THE MEETING WERE: TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN, THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER: HIS DEPUTY PREMIER AND DEFENCE MINISTER, TUN ABDUL RAZAK; LT-GEN TUNKU OSMAN BIN TUNKU MOHAMMED JEWA, CHIEF OF THE ARMED CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES; UNGKU NASARUDIN, HIGH RANKING OFFICER OF THE ARMED FORCES; AND OTHER GOVERNMENT MINISTERS. ALSO PRESENT WAS THE BRITISH COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF FAR EAST, ADMIRAL SIR VARYL BEGG.

    ADDRESSING A NEWS CONFERENCE AFTER THE MEETING, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN SAID THAT THE "COUNCIL HAD EVOLVED AN EFFECTIVE STRATEGY TO COMBAT INDONESIAN AGGRESSION AND FOIL PRESIDENT SUKARNO'S EXPANSIONIST AMBITIONS". HE SAID THAT THE COUNCIL HAD SUGGESTED THAT MALAYSIA CASE BE PUT TO THE U.N. SECURITY COUNCIL. THIS, HE SAID, WOULD BE DISCUSSED FULLY AT THE COMMONWEALTH PRIME MINISTERS' CONFERENCE IN LONDON NEXT WEEK.

    THE TUNKU HAD SUGGESTED AT THE DEFENCE COUNCIL MEETING THAT SIR VARYL BEGG, BRITISH C-IN-C FAR EAST, BE PRESENT DURING THE LONDON TALKS TO "HELP ME EXPLAIN THE WAR SITUATION TO THE PRIME MINISTERS, PARTICULARLY THOSE OF BRITAIN, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, AND NEW ZEALAND".
