    REPRESENTATIVES OF SEVEN AFRICAN COUNTRIES ATTENDED THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE INTER-AFRICAN COFFEE ORGANISATION AT KAMPALA IN UGANDA ON WEDNESDAY (NOVEMBER 26).

    THE DELEGATES CAME FROM UGANDA, TANZANIA, ETHIOPIA, BURUNDI, CAMEROON, IVORY COAST, AND TOGO AND THE MEETING WAS OPENED BY THE VICE PRESIDENT OF UGANDA, MR. J. K. BABIIHA.

    THE AIM OF THE ORGANISATION, WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1960, IS TO PROMOTE GREATER STABILITY IN THE PRICES OF THE COFFEES WHICH ARE GROWN IN AFRICA AND THE MALAGASY REPUBLIC.

    MR. BABIIHA TOLD THE MEETING THAT AFRICA'S COFFEE PROBLEMS HAVE BECOME MORE COMPLEX AND ACUTE. HE POINTED OUT THAT COFFEE PRODUCTION ACCOUNTS FOR BETWEEN 30 PER CENT AND 60 PER CENT OF EXTERNAL TRADE FOR MOST AFRICAN COUNTRIES.

    IT IS THE NINTH ANNUAL MEETING OF THE 17 MEMBER COFFEE ORGANISATION AND THE DELEGATES WILL BE DISCUSSING CURRENT TRENDS IN COFFEE MARKETING AND RELATED MATTERS.

    ANOTHER SPEAKER AT THE OPENING SESSION WAS DR. E. BABUMBA, LEADER OF THE UGANDAN DELEGATION.
