    THE AMERICAN ROCKET SOCIETY OPENED AN EXHIBITION AT NEW YORK'S COLISEUM ON OCTOBER 9. IT WAS PART OF THE SOCIETY'S "SPACE FLIGHT REPORT TO THE NATION" WHICH ALSO INCLUDES A SERIES OF MEETINGS AND LECTURES BY THE LEADING ROCKET EXPERTS OF THE UNITED STATES.

    EXHIBITS DISPLAYED THE EXTENT OF THE NATION'S ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE EXPLORATION OF SPACE. THE ROTODYNE DIVISION OF NORTH AMERICAN AVIATION DISPLAYED A ROCKET ENGINE - THE F.I. - WITH A 1.5 MILLION-POUND THRUST. THE NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION'S EXHIBIT SHOWED A MODEL OF THE WORLD, SURROUNDED BY LOOPS OF COLOURED TUBING INDICATING THE PATHS OF SATELLITES ALREADY IN ORBIT.

    A MODEL ASTRONAUT DISPLAYED A SUIT DESIGNED TO ORBIT THE EARTH IN A 'FREEDOM 7' MANNED SPACE CRAFT. AND A LARGE SCALE MODEL OF A MANNED MOON COLONY SHOWED HOW A GROUP OF PEOPLE MIGHT BE ABLE TO LIVE ON THE MOON; THE EARLIEST ESTIMATED DATE THAT SUCH A THING COULD BE ACHIEVED WAS 1965. A MERCURY CAPSULE WAS ALSO SHOWN WITH A MODEL ASTRONAUT IN POSITION, IN A SIMULATION OF A SPACE FLIGHT. A FORM OF TRANSPORTATION FOR USE ON THE MOON WAS DESIGNED TO USE SUCTION, INSTEAD OF WHEELS, TO HOLD ITSELF TO THE MOON'S SURFACE IN THE ABSENCE OF GRAVITY.

    A LIVE MONKEY ENCASED BEHIND GLASS WAS BEING USED TO TEST THE METHOD OF THE CABIN CONDITIONING SYSTEM INSIDE A SPACECRAFT. EXPERIMENTAL MODELS OF ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT WERE DEMONSTRATED BY A TECHNICIAN WHO WAS COLLECTING DATA FROM THE COMPLICATED COLLECTION OF DIALS ON THE APPARATUS. THE SHOW WILL CONTINUE UNTIL OCTOBER 15.
