  • Description

FIVE-THOUSAND PEOPLE FROM THE SOUTH MOLUCCAS IN INDONESIA MARCHED THROUGH THE HAGUE IN HOLLAND YESTERDAY (MONDAY) AND DEMANDED THE RIGHT OF SELF-DETERMINATION.

THE DEMONSTRATORS MARCHED ON THE INDONESIAN EMBASSY AND EXTRA POLICE WERE ON DUTY THERE, BUT THERE WERE NO INCIDENTS.

THE SOUTH MOLUCCANS HAD COME FROM ALL OVER HOLLAND FOR THE DEMONSTRATION TO MARK THE 16TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE "PROCLAMATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE SOUTH MOLUCCAS." OTHER BANNERS ACCUSED INDONESIA OF "SUPPRESSION" AND HOLLAND OF "NEGLECT OF DUTY."
REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SELF-STYLED REPUBLIC LAST WEEK PUBLISHED AND APPEAL TO THE UNITED NATIONS FOR SUPPORT AND FOR ADMISSION TO THE UNITED NATIONS. IN THIS APPEAL THEY CLAIMED THAT THE RIGHT OF SELF-DETERMINATION WAS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED AND GUARANTEED IN THE DUTCH-INDONESIAN AGREEMENTS OF 1949. THE AGREEMENTS GOVERNED THE TRANSFER OF SOVEREIGNTY TO THE TERRITORY OF INDONESIA BY HOLLAND.
