Hungarian Prime Minister, Janos Kadar met Italy's President Giovanni Leone on Wednesday (8 June) at the Quinale Palace, Rome. The Hungarian Prime Minister is in Italy on a five-day official visit.
SYNOPSIS: The two-leaders lunched together at the Palace. It's the first time Premier Kadar has visited a country belonging to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation or the European Common Market. The Hungarian Premier's visit is considered significant by his Government, which believes the Soviet Union is not sole leader of world Communism, and that each country should find its own leader to achieve Communist ideals.
The Hungarian Premier is due to meet the Pope in a private audience at the Vatican, and later this week, he'll visit Venice with his wife for a city tour -- a day when he'll be relaxing as a tourist.
