    The last day of the Henley Regatta opened in blazing sunshine with a win for Lady Margaret, head of the river at Cambridge, in the Ladies' Plate. A large crowd was there to see them beat Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

    One of the afternoon's highlights was the final of the Diamond Sculls, easily won by Start Mackenzie of Australia who was sculling against H.L. Parker, U.S. It was his third successive victory in the event - the first time the feat has been performed since Jack Beresford's triple win over thirty years age.

    The first semi-final of the Thames Challenge Cup during the last day was between two American Town, Harvard University, the holders, beating Union Boat Club.

    It was a day of major sporting events. As the finals were being rowed off at Henley, the exciting last matches were being played at Wimbledon, at Leads the third Test match against India continued and among many other cricket matches throughout the country, Eton were playing Harrow at Lord's. The weather was at its best, with temperatures in London reaching 80 degrees, and on the centre court at Wimbledon, 100 degrees.
