  • Description

For two weeks the Italian seaport of Reggio Calabria has been crippled by a general strike and demonstrations--the latest in the seven months of similar incidents that have been taking place since Calabria was given semi-autonomous regional administration and the smaller town of Catanzaro chosen as the region's seat of Government. Today (Wednesday), new riots broke out and they have already been classified as the worst of the last two weeks--and among the worst since the troubles began.

Today's scenes were filmed by Rome-based free-lance Cameraman Enzo di Giambattista for VISNEWS and serviced on the Eurovision link from Rome for today's newsreels. The film was telerecorded in London off this link to ensure a speedier service.
