  • Description

General George Grivas, former EOKA leader in Cyprus, formally announces his decision to enter Greek politics at Athens, Greece, Nov. 6. Four political parties - the Liberal Party, the National Union of Progressive Centre, the Popular-Social Party and the Labour-Agrarian Party - will be placed under his care.

Pending the new elections, Grivas will have a Parliamentary representation of 34 deputies. He promises to " contribute to the removal of the great dangers, interior and other, which threaten the Greek nation and the Greek people."
In the office of Grivas, Nov.5, leaders of the four parties and their deputies discussed the proclamation in which Grivas was to announce his decision to enter politics. Among leaders present were Sefanopoulos (Popular-Social Party), General Katsotas (former Mayor of Athens and leader of the Labour-Agrarian Party), Papapolitis (National Union of Progressive Centre), and Vardinoyannis and Maris (representing Venizelos of the Liberal Party).

Grivas says he has no personal ambitions, nor does he want to add another political party to those already in existence. He will not co-operate with the Leftist party, which, he says, receives orders from abroad.
