  • Description

Iowa and Minnesota have been hit by heavy floods which threaten to get worse because of late and very wet snow. Two persons are dead and two children are missing.

The two middle western states of Iowa and Southern Minnesota have been hard hit by destructive floods with thousands of persons seeking shelter outside their homes because of the high water.

Two persons were killed ( April 7) in southern Minnesota and two children are missing in an area of high water.

In Iowa, the damage in the town of Cherokee...population 85-hundred...will exceed two-million dollars. The Little Sioux River at Cherokee rose to 27-feet. Flood level is 17 feet. Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota are also hard hit.

Rain fell April 8 and is expected to continue for several more days. The rain and mild temperatures are melting the remains of deep snow packs, filling rivers and smaller streams to overflowing.

Farm animals are in danger of drowning or starving from lack of food or people to feed them. Many roads are closed because of high waters.

Along many threatened rivers and towns, sandbagging operations are underway around the clock to build levees and other barricades to channel the water away from populated sections.
