Background: A series of spectacular saves by the Czech goalkeeper Viktor was the highlight of a soccer international in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday (28 June) between Czechoslovakia and Brazil.
The match was part of an international tournament to mark the anniversary of Brazilian independence. The countries involved in the tournament - which has now reached the quarter-final stage - include Argentina, France, Colombia, Portugal, Chile, The Irish Republic, Ecuador, Iran, Yugoslavia, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela.
A crowd of 120-thousand watched Wednesday's match - and many were disappointed at Brazil's inability to score against the visiting Czechs. It's just two years since Brazil stormed to victory in the World Cup -- but Brazil without its star forward Pels seemed a different team.
The full teams - Czechoslovakia: Viktor, Dobias, Zlocha, Hagara, Pivarnik, Mocved, Pollak, Hrusevsky, Stratil, Adameo, Kabat.
- Brazil: Leao, Ze Maria, Brito, Vanturi, Marco Antonia, Clodoaldo, Gerson, Paulo Cesar, Jairzinho, Rivelino, Tostao.
In the quarter-final matches on Sunday (2 July) Brazil will play Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia will play Scotland.
