  • Description

Opening the inaugural International Islamic News Agency (IINA) conference in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (16 August), Malaysia's Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak reiterated his country's full support for the Arab and Palestinian causes.

Malaysia supported all efforts to bring peace to the Middle East, he said, but not peace without justice: "Justice calls for the return of the people of palestine to their homeland."
The IINA exists as the result of a resolution passed in March this year at the Islamic Foreign Minsters' Conference in Jeddah that there should be a unified news agency suitable for the purposes of all member states.

The aim of the IINA is to establish closer relations between Moslem states, promote greater understanding of Moslem affairs - political, social and economical - and work for the Islamic World's objectives.

At this year's session, Egypt, Iran, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Senegal were elected to the board which for the next two years will run the administration, finance and programming of the IINA.

After Premier Tun Abdul Tazak opened the general assembly, there was also an address by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, now Secretary General of the Islamic Secretariat, who praised Tun Abdul Razak for the active interest he was showing in the promotion of Islamic unity.
